Please bear with us as we update our website. We are looking for some useful information from the friends of SLAI and the members as well. When we have obtained all relevant information from them and it will be put on this website.
History of the SLAI:
In 1980 a group of Sign Language Teachers were teaching Sign Language to some hearing people on a voluntary basis in Rathmines. The name at that time was Sign Language Tutors of Ireland which was officially formed in 1985. Later on ,after a good few years we changed the name to Sign Language Association of Ireland and are still the same today. We are registered with the Revenue Commissioners as a Charity Organisation. More to follow as we gather the correct information on how SLAI was formed as soon as we have them to hand.
